If you’ve ever wanted one Gopro but its price exceeded your budget, you may still have a chance to have an action camera.
The Chinese company Xiaomi unveiled its action camera in the past MWC2015. And without a doubt, the most striking of that presentation was its prices, since Xiaomi’s Yi camera will have a price of only $ 64 USD, which is less than half of what the basic model of the camera is worth. GoPro Hero, one of the best-selling action cameras that sells for $ 130 USD.
But the price was not the only surprise. The Xiaomi Yi even offers some better technical specifications than its famous competitor, although it is also below in other respects.
Xiaomi Yi: Technical Specifications
The Xiaomi Yi records 1,080 / 60fps video and has a capacity of 64GB memory, while the GoPro Hero records 1,080 / 30fps and alone 32GB of storage, which is a great difference in quality at almost half the price.
Also, the Xiaomi Yi is a camera Wi-Fi enabled which enables it to have one more additional feature that is to press the shutter remotely using your smartphone or tablet. It also has a 155-degree wide-angle lens and is capable of taking a still photo of 16 megapixels Large size. It has standard digital image stabilization and the microphone has 3D noise reduction. For a camera with these specs and features and such a low price it sounds almost too good to be true.
So far, the Xiaomi Yi may seem like a winner, but this is where the difficulties come. The Yi is very light, weighing only 72 grams, but … without any protective casing. That’s right, the Yi action camera doesn’t come in a rugged, off-road housing. Therefore, once you take them out of the packaging, the GoPro models should be much stronger.
It seems that the Chinese manufacturer, aware of this defect that can discourage many sales, intends to compensate by including various accessories to use with the camera, for example a helmet to mount it or a harness to put it on your cat. Humor is not lacking either.
