Zurich Seguros seeks startups to reimagine the future of the sector

Zurich Seguros has just launched the third edition of its Innovation Championship. The world championship offers startups the opportunity to grow their business. Zurich thus wants to discover ideas capable of generating a long-term impact, but also leave a space for companies to offer innovative solutions that help the company explore new frontiers of innovation with a global and scalable vision. In its third year, the global competition seeks new startups with commercially viable technologies and innovative models that address challenges related to the sustainability; automation; new risks and other problems that will affect future generations.

The insurer’s purpose is the protection of people, but also a responsibility with the future. That is why he wants to promote the growth of young companies bringing innovative approaches. With this championship he wants to achieve the best combination between the two: the experience of a global insurer with almost 150 years and the transformative spirit of new companies that want to improve the insurance sector.

Enrollment and benefits

The deadline for receiving applications will be open until next December 31 through the Web. After this first recruitment phase, the local selection will take place. In it, a jury made up of a transversal team will select up to a maximum of 5 companies that will go on to the global phase. In this phase, the finalists will have to present their project in a pitch elevator to the international jury, which will select up to a maximum of 12 startups to start an acceleration program. They will work together to define, develop, deliver and scale those ideas, with the common goal of creating a bright future together. This is an opportunity to bring these solutions to market with the knowledge that Zurich has accumulated over a history of nearly 150 years. In addition to operational support and experience, a financial stimulus of $ 100,000 will be added to boost its growth.

On the web you can also find updated information on the process, documents and details of previous editions. 1,358 startups from 68 countries participated in the second edition of ZIC2020. This is almost three times the number of 450 applications from 49 countries in the previous call. A total of 186 were Spanish or their project was for the Spanish market. Thus, it becomes the first country with the most registrations in the EMEA region and the second worldwide (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
